About the PCN

Billericay Primary Care Network (PCN) consists of practices that were experiencing increasing operational challenges due to the high volume of incoming prescriptions and clinical documents. Daily workloads were becoming unmanageable, leading to administrative pressure, delays, and reduced capacity for patient-facing activity.

The Challenges

  • Struggling with the sheer volume of prescriptions and repeat requests.
  • Experiencing backlogs in task ledgers, impacting staff workload and practice efficiency.
  • Managing large numbers of documents, including letters requiring coding, filing, and triage.
  • Seeking a cost-efficient, sustainable solution to relieve the burden of prescription and document management.

Implementing the Virtual Hub

Our team of experienced pharmacists and pharmacy technicians integrated seamlessly with Billericay PCN to support prescription and document workflows. The support provided included:

Processing prescriptions and resolving medication-related queries.

Clearing task ledgers, reducing admin backlog.

Coding, filing, and triaging clinical documents, medicine reconciliation to ensure timely and accurate patient records.

Handling prescription requests, including repeat and acute.

This remove clinical support model allowed Billericay PCN to maintain high-quality care while significantly reducing administrative burden.

“It has been great being able to support Billericay by stepping in when urgent prescriptions are needed. It feels great to know I’m helping reduce patient wait times and taking pressure off the GPs, so they can focus on what matters most caring for their patients.”

★★★★★

“The Ashton’s team code anything required, raise pertinent queries regarding prescriptions and questions from the hospital team. Our GPs now spend only a tiny amount of their time doing this type of paperwork.”

“We’ve enjoyed working closely with a team of Ashton’s staff and creating protocols for them to follow, gradually improving efficiency as we’ve gone along. They are always friendly and responsive. They are always willing to add to what they do for us ie DMARD auditing, ECLIPSE alerts etc. Would highly recommend.”
